AI Bullshit Bingo
For years, we have been hearing stories about how artificial intelligence is taking over our jobs. If you want to avoid that fate, you'd better choose a creative craft, the advice has been. Because the brute processing power of an AI is good at recognising patterns, but has no clue about beauty and expression. Yet this year we see all kinds of AI systems popping up that can create infinite new works of art, in every possible style and movement, based on a few words. But what are we actually looking at? Come play bingo and see if you can manage to match the images to the instruction the A.I. got to work with.
Bingo
Play the dazzling and innovative AI Bingo game and win fun prizes. The hosts of SETUP will also engage in a conversation with the audience during the AI Bingo based on statements/thoughts about AI. So, in addition to the game element, there is also substantive space to debate AI.

The 'innocent' algorithms of dating apps
Matching algorithms (recommender systems) underlie dating apps, in which profiles are suggested to each other based on characteristics and similar profiles. May one find love! Peak, a data ethicist by birth, raises ethical questions about this kind of algorithm and takes you through her participatory research into the algorithms of dating apps. She shows how similar algorithms in other contexts (HR, Security domain) raise different ethical questions. How innocent is such an algorithm really?
Piek Knijff (1981) is a data ethicist and philosopher, and director of Philosophy in Action. She deals with the ethics of data, technology and algorithms. Philosophy in Action has been advising mainly organisations in the public domain or with a social function on the ethical side of technology since 2013, facilitating the good conversation about it and training people in it. Piek is considered one of the pioneers of data ethics in the Netherlands.

Question: which band plays 5,000 songs.....
... in its own set and own has its own original animations, makes live on the spot mash ups and plays songs in a different style? And that live? Right, the Coronas. Every performance by the Coronas is unique. The flexibility and spontaneity of the band members make every performance unique. Playing along, Karaoke and dancing along, all no problem. With the phone available to everyone, it is almost inevitable that even the big stars want to have a say in the music. Ozzy, for instance, is a welcome guest when the required dose of rock is needed. And former president Obama is also often in attendance to be assured of enough soul. Even Queen Maxima occasionally calls at.....
The phone machine is the beating heart of the Coronas Show. It defines the unique way the band communicates with the audience. Just pick up the phone!.....
Because you decide what the Coronas play. You just climb up the Phone
Machine and tell the band and the audience what you want to hear. And then let the Coronas surprise you! Because they will play at least your musical wish. But maybe also the song in a different style. Or you will be wowed with home-made animations and
original acts.
The Coronas App......
If you don't want to pick up your phone, you can now make a request using your own phone via our app. Through this app, you can also sign up yourself or someone else to play along or be highlighted. You can log in via www.coronasapp.nl. Each event will have its own unique code but with the code: demo you can already take a look.

# Modular Synthesizer Workshop
In the past we made music solely with acoustic instruments. With the invention of the synthesizer we mostly use electronically generated sounds that try to emulate these acoustic instruments, but the generated sounds often also resemble industrial installations.
In this workshop Jan Dobbelsteen shows how to specifically get a modular synthesizer going. The workshop ends with a short jam, and the audience can also tryout for themselves.
About Jan Dobbelsteen
Jan Dobbelsteen holds an MSc in electrical engineering. After a life in product development he has been a teacher at Fontys ICT for 12 years, focusing mainly on embedded software. Since a few years he coordinates the Minor Signals & Embedded Systems, in which students learn how to take in signals from the physical world and how to process them for use in software applications.

When it comes to technological developments, we often balance between hope and fear. Some hope that technology will relieve us of boring tasks, giving us more room for innovation and creativity. The other fears that tech companies are only concerned about money and that legislation is too far behind to save us from calamity. Lecturers Mark de Graaf and Bart Wernaart offer us different perspectives to interpret the latest technological developments.
It is an exciting time, because with artificial intelligence we have unleashed something without thinking carefully beforehand about how we deal with it. Fake news is barely recognisable any more, jobs and tasks are being taken over by automated systems, and technology is also having a major impact in our daily lives. The technology train is rumbling on. How are we going to manage this? Can we intervene at all? We don't want to get bogged down in doomsday scenarios: but in any case, this is not the time to sit idle.
Bart Wernaart has years of experience as a lawyer and ethics lecturer. In his current position as professor of moral design strategy and aims to bridge the gap between technology, society and ethics. By making our digital society more human, he wants to contribute to reducing the distance between individual and organisation.
Mark de Graaf worked at TU Eindhoven and earned his spurs on the subjects playful interactions, and emergence in complex systems. At Fontys, he is lecturer interaction design and leading lecturer of the Centre of expertise Inclusive Society. In the latter role, he focuses on a society in which everyone can participate, feels at home and flourishes.

Silicon sampling: will AI soon replace User Research?
Silicon sampling is the use of Large language models (LLMs) to simulate real people and interview them en masse as a replacement for human respondents. Silicon sampling in user research seems to give promising results; it would be indistinguishable from human responses, faster and cheaper, as well as being able to reach audiences that would not normally come forward. LLMs are also being used to conduct research and substitute subjects in social sciences.
But does this also deliver the results we would want from user research and scientific enquiry? What does it actually mean when we start doing research in this way? Marieke, Researcher Moral Design Strategy, shows how analysing our language can contribute to knowledge about what is going on in society around new technologies.
About Marieke
Marieke is an experienced IT Business Analyst with a PhD in Neuroscience and now combines these fields of work as researcher Moral Design Strategy. She researches the impact of technology on society. Marieke is also the founder of the Brain Palace, the place where you yourself are the architect in a world where technology serves humans, and not the other way around.

Project MasterMinds aims to create social impact on human behaviour by developing interactive AI technologies such as serious gaming, augmented and virtual reality, intelligent tutoring systems, natural language processing and data science. For example, we help primary school teachers detect emotional problems in children in the classroom by using a chatbot with an appropriate virtual agent. We are trying to get children to do movement exercises in a fun, activating way while also learning the tables, and we are developing an arcade game where physiological signals are included as input in the game.
Project MasterMinds involves several teachers and students and is part of the Fontys ICT lectorate Interaction Design.

Julia Janssen is an artist, speaker and ambassador of data protection. She explores the impact of data, AI and technology on our physical environment and creates interactive and performative installations to give her audience insight into the challenges of our digitising world. How do we deal with equality, freedom, fairness, autonomy and democracy in a data-driven society?
About Julia
In 2016, she graduated from ArtEZ University of the Arts in Graphic Design. During her studies, she became interested in data and digitisation and worked on several projects that highlighted our relationship with technology. With her graduation work, she won the Crypto Design Award and has since then dedicated her art to data sovereignty.
Julia translates scientific insights into accessible designs through which she gives her audience a glimpse behind the surface of the internet. By making the complexity of information technology understandable, she is building a movement towards data sovereignty: ultimately, everyone should be able to consciously choose who knows what about them. Her projects and presentations focus on data collection infrastructures, the power of Big Tech, the (monetary) value of data, bias in algorithms, profiling, digital identity, life within algorithms and digital civil rights such as informed consent and the right to be forgotten.

DIGITAL & HUMAN
It may seem counterintuitive, but embracing the advancements of technology and AI can enhance our humanity. We can focus on developing our unique talents and skills by automating mundane tasks and freeing up our time. As humans, we can adapt and learn, allowing us to evolve and stay relevant in a rapidly changing world constantly.
Embracing technology does not mean giving up our humanity; it means empowering ourselves to reach even more significant potential as individuals and as a society. So rather than fear the unknown future, let’s embrace it and leverage technology to become the best versions of ourselves.
